Description
Position Overview:
The I&E Designer will perform assignments associated with designing instruments and electrical equipment, components, structures or systems. Able to work with minimal supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare detailed drawings of control panel layouts, designs and working drawings including necessary projections, sectional views, and standard specifications.
- Develop detailed electrical system designs and layouts using CAD or related software.
- Interpret verbal or written directions to initiate a preliminary design.
- Perform electrical cable sizing, conduit sizing, and cable tray using charts and tables, as required to complete work assignments.
- Develop or assist in the development of control circuits for instrument components, logic controllers, and relays.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Check and verify the accuracy of drawings redlined by others.
- Prepare parts lists, procurement lists, bills of material (BOM) and specifications when drawings are complete.
- Revise lists, drawings and BOM consistent with engineering changes.
- Implement revisions and change control per company standards at the direction of senior level designers and engineers.
- Assemble information and reference drawings from a variety of sources.
- Continually look for product improvements and cost reductions.
- Determine and initiate drawings/models based on optimal views relative to communicating construction desires as applicable.
- Check field red-lined drawings and generate accurate as-built drawings as needed.
- Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve them.
- Utilize 2D or 3D computer aided design software to create layouts of instrument systems, devices and components, and create fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Utilize engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documents in the designing, detailing, documenting, and verifying of instrument parts, subassemblies, assemblies or system configurations.
- Analyze the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems and recommend possible solutions or alternate construction options.
- Produce drawings and deliverables utilizing company standards within a project-approved schedule and budget.
- Maintain proper file management in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Interact and communicate effectively with internal clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.
- Track and maintain a continued awareness of overall schedule and budget for assigned projects.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to meet project specifications and timelines.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree from a Technical Institution preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience preferred.
- AutoCAD Electrical software experience required.
- Medium level E&I Design experience in control systems, communications, and electrical power design (Low voltage up to 480VAC required)
- Minimum of 5 years working/design experience in a similar position required in petrochemical, oil and gas, midstream or other heavy industries. (Applicable field experience would be taken into consideration)
- Ability to read, design and understand schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID prints and working knowledge DCS / PLC control systems.
- In depth knowledge of electrical conduit size, conduit fill, wire size, fuse / breaker size, and motor starter size.
- Working knowledge of current National Electric Code and code application
- Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
- Working knowledge of electrical layout / design complying with industry standards and National Electric Code.
- Must be comfortable / able to work in an engineering and manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of hazardous location areas.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Timely problem-solving skills, proven ability to work within a team environment with the ability to work on a project and ability to prioritize responsibilities with minimum supervision.
- Advanced PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet usage required.
- UL508A Knowledge and Relevant Work Experience
