POSITION SUMMARY : The Library Customer Specialist is responsible for providing customer service directly and on-site. This position also serves as a regularly scheduled designated staff-in-charge and assists with various duties associated with location operations. This position performs a variety of tasks dealing with the circulation of materials, as well as provides reference service and technology training / assistance to customers in-person, by e-mail, phone, and letter.
DUTIES :
- Performs readers’ advisory and reference work.
- Shelves returned materials.
- Searches for requested materials.
- Performs duties that require proficiency with a variety of hardware and software and compiles statistics when needed.
- Assists customers with various technologies such as phones, computers, and tablets.
- Assists customers with resumes, job searches, internet use, and basic word processing.
- Assists in maintenance of the collection, including weeding and reading shelves to ensure correct order.
- Assists with programs, displays, and meeting room approvals.
- Coordinate the Juvenile program prep work.
- Is able to execute programs planned by MLIS librarians.
- Refers customers to Managers or Librarians, as appropriate.
- Uses Library automated circulation system to circulate materials to customers, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering customers, and collecting fees.
- May prepare and deposit money from fees.
- Assists in the preparation of special collections.
- Regularly serves as the staff-in-charge in the absence of Manager and Librarians when designated.
- Prepares staff schedules accurately and in a timely manner.
- May direct the work of Grade 1 – 4 staff when designated.
- Respects and maintains confidentiality of customers, peers, and branch / department.
- Attendance is punctual and reliable.
- Participates in regular self-directed training to ensure preparedness.
- Coordination of displays responsibility and assisting in the creation and preparation.
- Office management responsibilities such as meeting room approvals, updates to forms, creation, and updates of job aids, and overall operations workflow input.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION :
HOURS : 40 Hours per week, including weekends and evenings.
