Duties
- Performs reference and reader’s advisory services in person, by telephone, and by e-mail, using materials in a variety of formats.
- Responsible for pulling and crafting collections.
- Uses reader advisory skills to select materials for customers.
- Supervises the operation of the location in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor and may direct the work of staff when designated.
- Builds relationships with primary contacts at facilities within the county to coordinate services and events.
- Develops programming for customers at a variety of facilities within the community.
- Assists customers with various technologies such as phones, computers, and tablets.
- Assists customers with resumes, job searches, internet use, and basic word processing.
- Interprets the Library’s policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner.
- Maintains awareness of current Library trends through professional reading, conference attendance, and organization participation.
- Participates in the location’s responsibilities including, but not limited to, desk set up, bookdrop, delivery, shelf reading, ILS reports, supply orders and filling interagency requests.
- Uses the Library’s automated systems to circulate materials to customers, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering customers, and collecting fees.
- Strong knowledge of adult and/or youth literature, interests, and behaviors.
- Demonstrates creativity through a variety of programs and storytelling techniques.
- Demonstrates a strong analytical ability to understand and solve unusual or difficult reference questions by supplying information well-suited to the user.
- Demonstrates knowledge of reference materials in a variety of formats.
- Performs reference searches quickly and accurately across a wide range of subjects with material at the appropriate age level.
- Understands and supports the Library’s mission, beliefs, culture, and structure, and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the Library’s policies and procedures.
