Position Summary
We are looking for an animal welfare or social work professional to lead the Community Support Department with strong strategic thinking and executional excellence. Ours is a fast-paced, stressful, high-stakes industry - the successful candidate is one who can rise above the day-to-day demands of the job to take a holistic approach to program development and delivering results. This person has the internal discipline to work effectively within the freedom and autonomy of a start-up entity. The Community Support Manager has a deep understanding of community needs and socioeconomic factors contributing to poverty and scarcity in our local neighborhoods. This person has strong logistical skills, leadership skills, and a successful track record of project development and case management. The ideal candidate is unsatisfied with the status quo and actively seeks and accepts feedback and opportunities for improvement.
The Community Support Manager will contribute to the setting of the short- and long-term strategy, identifying key performance measures of the collective Community Support Department and delivering results. This person must be able to “build the plane while flying it”. The Community Support Manager will be responsible for the intake and intake diversion of animals in Hamilton County, as well as, overseeing intentional, strategic, and proactive support in the community to decrease the number of animals that arrive at the county shelter. The Community Support Manager will lead the Community Support department, comprised of approximately 5 -10 staff, and interface within the organization as a leader of CAC. Program oversight will include intake and resource center.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Staff development; hiring, training, coaching, enabling, retention and career pathways
- Establish a vision for the department using organizational goals and data to determine community needs
- Program development; collect data, set goals, measure success and agreed upon KPIs, swiftly and proactively address concerning data trends, and implement innovative and new programming that supports families and minimizes intake of animals into the shelter
- Work closely with the foster and outcomes teams to find alternatives to shelter admission
- Form and leverage strong relationships with other managers to work across the organization effectively to deliver sustained results
- Build relationships in the community; gain trust and establish Cincinnati Animal CARE as a resource center
- Make connections and work collaboratively with community partners and leaders in areas of human services that align with the needs of our clients
- Build a robust off-site schedule to establish a presence in the community
- Develop and implement a standard of customer service and messaging that is consistent across Community Support functions
- Contribute to the development of a departmental budget
- Stay current and fluent in industry best practice and new trends
Requirements:
- 2 years of population management and logistics and/or social work or other community support experience
- 3 years of leadership experience managing or overseeing a variance of teams, including entry level and management
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
- Exposure and handling unvetted animals and their waste is frequent.
