General Statement Of Duties
The Cincinnati Public Schools invites applications for the position of Aspire Adult Education Instructor/ESL. This position reports to the Administrator of the Aspire Program.
Qualifications
Training: Bachelor's degree, experience working with adult ESOL students.
Experience: Background in facilitating adult ESOL large and small groups.
Duties And Responsibilities
The successful candidate shall have the training, skills, and ability necessary to:
English For Speakers Of Other Languages (ESOL) Skills
Service Period: 35 Hours per week, 52 weeks

Duties And Responsibilities
The successful candidate shall have the training, skills, and ability necessary to:
English For Speakers Of Other Languages (ESOL) Skills
- Facilitate ESOL classes in speaking, listening, conveying ideas in writing, pronunciation, American culture and life skills. Pay attention to conventions of oral English communication, including grammar, word choice, register, pace and gesture in order to minimize barriers to listener's comprehension.
- Listen actively, clarify purpose for listening and use listening strategies appropriate to that purpose.
- Facilitate multilevel English classes from beginning to advanced level.
- Develop or enhance basic computer skills, computer literacy and keyboarding.
- Recruit and retain ESOL students
- Administer reading, writing, speaking, and listening assessment (TABE ClasE) for ESOL students.
- Develop and facilitate activities, programs, or services that are designed to help an individual acquire a combination of basic academic skills, critical thinking, digital literacy, and self-management skills.
- Monitor and assess student's progress and revise learning plan quarterly or as needed
- Design employability skills that address competencies in using resources and information, working with others, understanding systems, and obtaining skills necessary to successfully transition to and complete post secondary education, training, and employment
- Plan classroom activities that incorporate a variety of learning modalities
- Communicate with local businesses, social service organizations, and professional organizations to establish linkages in order to increase program viability and student opportunities.
- Maintain accurate student records, and prepare and submit reports as requested
- Keep abreast of trends in the ESOL, participate in mandatory Ohio Higher Education professional development, and attend required program staff meetings
- Perform other related duites as requested
