TITLE: LUNCHROOM MANAGER (BofE)
SALARY RANGE: $22.04 hourly

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To manage the lunchroom operations of an elementary, junior high, middle or small senior high school preparing most foods on premises.
WHO MAY COMPETE:
All classified, permanent employees with the Cincinnati Public Schools who meet the qualifications listed below as of Thursday, January 30, 2025. IT IS THE POLICY OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION THAT TEMPORARY TRANSFER AND/OR PROMOTION TIME WILL NOT BE COUNTED FOR EXAMINATION ELIGIBILITY PURPOSES (CIVIL SERVICE RULE 10, SECTION 2 – 8/3/89). IT IS THE POLICY OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION THAT EMPLOYEES MUST NOT HAVE BEEN DEMOTED TO A LOWER CLASSIFICATION AS A RESULT OF A DISCIPLINARY ACTION IN THE TWELVE MONTH PERIOD PRECEDING THE EXAMINATION. EMPLOYEES MAY NOT HAVE FAILED THEIR PROBATIONARY PERIOD IN THE TWELVE MONTH PERIOD PRECEDING THE EXAMINATION, UNLESS IN THE JUDGEMENT OF THE CIVIL SERVICE SECRETARY, THE FAILURE WILL NOT AFFECT THEIR USEFULNESS IN SOME OTHER TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT. REQUIRED SERVICE RATING:
Two of the last three service ratings must be satisfactory.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A knowledge of English and math sufficient to write reports, read and understand directions (recipes, rules, etc.), account for money collected, etc. One year of experience in volume food preparation and service with the Cincinnati Public Schools.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Six months
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES WHICH MAY BE SAMPLED/MEASURED/INCLUDED IN THIS EXAM:
Knowledge of:
- Elements of report preparation and writing; basics of supervision
- Basic mathematics, including use of fractions, decimals and percentages
- Problem solving techniques
- Inventory control
- Basic English and English usage
- Volume food production, including ordering supplies and commodities, storing, food and cooking terminology, preparation, equipment, serving, etc.
- General sanitation standards as they relate to food operation
Skill to:
Operate a computer
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports
- Oversee and participate in food production
- Supervise (train, direct, motivate, delegate work, evaluate and appraise worker performance, resolve minor grievances and other personnel problems, etc.)
- Plan and organize work, estimate requirements accurately and set reasonable priorities
- Deal effectively with all types of people
- Read, interpret, convert and follow recipes
- Perform basic arithmetic calculations, including use of fractions, decimals and percentages
- Keep work environment neat and orderly
- Work under pressure of time to complete schedules, production changes, etc.
- Handle and account for moneys collected
- Function effectively without close supervision

This is a sensitive classification therefore applicants for appointments must pass a security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records. Must have a valid Driver's License.
