Development Director

Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub
Cincinnati, OH Full Time
POSTED ON 3/11/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/9/2025

Position: Development Director

Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub (the Hub) is a growing nonprofit looking to add to our team and expand our organizational capacity. Our mission is to revolutionize how people think about “things” and to provide a place where almost anything can be recycled or reused. We are a dedicated group of staff and volunteers who strive to mitigate the effects of climate change by increasing recycling, reuse, and landfill diversion rates in the greater Cincinnati area.

About this position: The Hub seeks a dedicated, organized leader to drive fundraising and sustainability efforts. As the sole development staff, the Development Director will secure resources, foster donor relationships, and align funding strategies with long-term goals. Collaborating with the Executive Director and Board, this role ensures financial sustainability while upholding transparency, integrity, and the Hub’s core values.

Description: Work with minimal supervision, maintaining a full range of Development Director duties such as:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Develop and implement an impact-driven annual development plan, outlining goals, strategies, and timelines for campaigns, donor engagement, events, and stewardship activities.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify funding needs and prioritize actions that maximize environmental and community benefits.
  • Maintain a grants calendar, ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports.
  • Grant Writing and Management
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and a grant-writing consultant, engaged on an as-needed basis, to craft compelling grant proposals.
  • Track restricted grant income and related expenses, ensuring financial transparency and accountability.
  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
  • Cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors by being a clear and transparent communicator.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director for meetings with major donors to share measurable impact and success stories that demonstrate the Hub’s influence.
  • Plan and execute donor stewardship events on an agreed-upon schedule, fostering engagement and demonstrating the long-term impact of contributions.
  • Fundraising Events
  • Lead the planning and execution of an annual signature fundraising event, such as Hub-O-Ween or Earth Day celebrations, ensuring alignment with the Hub’s mission and sustainability values.
  • Development Operations
  • Ensure accurate tracking of donor information and financial transactions in the CRM system (currently Network for Good).
  • Provide input on CRM improvements to enhance donor engagement and efficiency.
  • Generate and oversee the timely delivery of donor acknowledgment letters and tax receipts to maintain trust and engagement.
  • Collaboration and Leadership
  • Work with the Executive Director and team members on integrated marketing and communications strategies to amplify fundraising efforts.
  • Act as the primary liaison for the Board’s Development Committee, fostering collaboration and shared accountability for fundraising outcomes.
  • Educate and empower stakeholders by sharing knowledge and best practices in donor engagement and development strategies.

Hours:  40 hours per week. Initially, all hours will be at the Hub until the employee demonstrates the appropriate level of self-management to have the flexibility to work off-site, but they will still need to come into the Hub occasionally at that point.

Please note that the Hub is a warehouse space that is kept to 62 degrees in the winter and there is no air conditioning in the summer (we do have industrial fans, though), so you will need to dress accordingly.

Pay Rate:  Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include PTO and QSHERHA Health Coverage.

Reports To:

Qualifications:

In order to be successful in this role, we believe the ideal candidate will have the following characteristics and experience:
