Instructor – Automotive Service Management
Overview:
Cincinnati State invites applications for the position of Instructor – Automotive Service Management. The position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position providing classroom instruction for a variety of college-level automotive courses taught entirely in-person on our Clifton campus. Faculty are expected to provide high-quality instruction using experiential learning techniques and strive to improve student learning experiences.
Working with departmental colleagues, the instructor will share responsibility for course and curriculum design, establishment and maintenance of academic standards, and recruitment of new students. The instructor is also required to maintain a working relationship with industry partners and community constituents to promote the Kenwood Dealer Group School of Automotive Technology at Cincinnati State, as well as to stay current in trends and workforce needs within the region.
Essential Duties:
- Deliver learner-centered instruction at a variety of days and times in response to institutional needs.
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
- Promote student success by showing flexibility in style as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and students and engaging students in the learning process.
- Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques and delivery methods.
- Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabus.
- Assess student performance in achieving course objectives to evaluate the effectiveness of the course.
- Post grade timely, provide students with meaningful feedback, and meet all data reporting deadlines.
- Respond to requests (e.g., from students, academic area chairs, department heads, committee chairs, Records Office) in a timely and thorough manner.
- Assist in the development of new courses/curricula and the maintenance of existing courses/curricula.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
- Advise students on course scheduling and academic matters at the request of the program chair.
- Assist with the automotive program self-study.
- Attend program, departmental, divisional, and college meetings.
- Attend and contribute to assigned college committees.
- Participate in the Cincinnati State peer-mentoring program.
- Maintain office hours in accordance with faculty contract.
- Serve as program chair at the request of the dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and ASE industry certifications OR associate’s degree with ASE industry certifications and three years’ of experience as an automotive service mechanic and ability to obtain Bachelor’s degree at time of tenure application.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand in a lab environment for up to six (6) hours.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, and crouch.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as College business needs may require.
- Functional technical competency in software and computer usage required for classroom instruction, and the recording and reporting of student performance data.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years' experience as an automotive service mechanic.
- Experience as an automotive educator in a community college program.
- Experience teaching in high school and/or industry training.
- Experience using learning management systems.
- Experience working with students from diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences.
- Understanding of diverse methods of classroom technology, and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs.
