Microbiologist

Lead innovation and new product development within microbiology for a global leader in natural coloring foods!

We are a leader in 100% natural coloring foods and we're seeking a Microbiologist to join our Food Safety and Quality team. This position plays a key role in ensuring product safety and quality, while driving innovation and compliance with regulatory standards. Working closely with Quality, Product Development, and Operations teams, the Microbiologist will provide scientific expertise to solve food safety challenges and support the company’s ambitious growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Microbiological Testing & Analysis

• Inspect, sample, and perform basic tests on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
• Submit samples for internal and third-party testing, and summarize and report data.

Environmental Monitoring & Compliance

• Lead Environmental Monitoring Programs (EMP) and ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Train staff in food safety, sanitation, and microbiological methods.

Risk Assessment & Food Safety

• Conduct risk assessments and challenge studies using scientific literature and risk assessment tools.
• Provide technical expertise to resolve food safety, sanitation, and quality issues.
• Support new product launches and ensure adherence to food safety standards.

Research & Development

• Design, execute, and report on scientific studies to address operational challenges, foster innovation, and meet regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational transformation and innovation.

Laboratory Development

• Plan, design, and procure equipment to establish and launch an in-house microbiological laboratory.
• Develop, review, and revise microbiological methods, policies, and SOPs.

Qualifications:

• B.S. in Microbiology or Food Microbiology with 3 years of food/beverage industry experience, or M.S./Ph.D. with 2 years of experience.
• Proficiency in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Strong knowledge of food/beverage microbiology, including spoilage organisms, pathogens, and lab techniques.
