Position Summary:
The Class A Lineman position works hands on in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground and overhead distribution systems. This individual is skilled in performing installations, troubleshooting and repairing failures of underground/overhead electrical lines; operating trenching and backhoe/front end loading equipment; climbing utility poles; and working with hot line tools.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Cultivate safety as a core value throughout the company, supporting the corporate safety program and personnel.
- Perform all duties of all job classifications lower than Class A as required.
- Set and line up poles, install crossarms, hardware, transformers, guys, frames poles, etc.
- Rigs block and tackle for lifting of heavy objects, lifts heavy objects with material handling bucket trucks and line trucks according to equipment capacities and manufacturer instructions.
- Use and maintain all tools and equipment according to industry standards and manufacturer instructions.
- Install and removes recloser, regulators, lighting arrestors, air brake switches, guys, sectionalizers, station regulators, station breakers, bypass switches, capacitors, cutouts, fault indicators, streetlights, and other types of special equipment.
- Assist in connecting 3-phase transformer banks.
- Operate tractors, trucks, forklifts and other equipment with proper training, licenses, and experience.
- Must have at least 6 years of line experience.
- Must know the direction of line feed and be able to switch circuits in emergencies.
- Must be able to climb poles to perform utility work
- Must be able to perform work on de-energized or energized lines.
- Must be able to work with hot line tools.
- Must be able to terminate connections in meter bases, secondary pedestals, and transformers. Installing grounds, secondary blocks elbows and primary splices in transformers.
- Must be able to Perform and practices pole top rescue.
- Must be able to Perform and practices aerial bucket rescue.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, tools, and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
- Endurance to perform physical tasks throughout the workday, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Agility and flexibility to navigate construction sites and access work areas, including climbing ladders and scaffolding.
- Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, and tunnels.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
