What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician/Optometric Assistant position at Ciotti Eye Care?
The Ciotti Eye Care work environment is a family-owned private practice setting, working directly with the owners/doctors to accomplish a wide variety of tasks in order to ensure patients have a pleasant, efficient, and high-quality eye care experience.
Past experience working in the eye care industry is preferred, but we will consider applicants with less experience if motivated and willing to learn the specifics of working in eye care. We are currently prioritizing applicants with optical sales experience. Some minimum experience working in customer service, retail, or other healthcare industries, etc. will be required. Experience with medical billing and coding is also preferred.

Below are examples of duties/responsibilities that may be expected on the job:
- Greet internal and external clients, patients, and their families warmly.
- Maintain a professional and friendly attitude with all staff, patients, and doctors
- Speak with patients on the phone, schedule patient exams and appointments, check patients out, and post charges.
- Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing equipment and ensuring the examination room is ready.
- Conduct preliminary tests on patients, including visual acuity tests and taking medical histories.
- Assist patients in the selection of eyewear.
- Measure, fit, adjust, and repair eyewear.
- Discuss customer's needs, occupations, and hobbies to determine the best lenses to suit the lifestyle.
- Prepare and deliver work orders to the outside laboratory.
- Verify quality and measurements of eyewear returned from the lab.
- Maintain a neat and orderly appearance in the dispensary at all time
- Contact patients when eyewear arrives.
- Work with patients to provide patient education and how to use their new eyewear.
- Administrative/Fiscal Duties
- Maintain inventory of eyewear, accessories, and supplies
- Counsel patients with third-party insurance regarding the specifics of their coverage, including (but not limited to) patient's responsibility, time for filing, etc.
- Prepare the patient's bill and input charges into the computer system; balance receipts at the end of each day.
- Assist in establishing and revising the dispensary's guidelines, policies, and warranties.
- Organize and maintain contact lens inventory.
- Inventory frames and accessories.
