Position Summary
The CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator is responsible for operating CNC machines to manufacture parts and components according to specifications and quality standards. As an important part of the manufacturing process at CIP, the operator will load materials, set up machines, monitor machine operations, and perform quality checks to ensure precision and accuracy.
Core Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Set up and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, and milling.
- Load and unload raw materials and parts onto/from the CNC machine.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to determine machine settings and material specifications.
Quality Control
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on CNC machines and ensure they are in good working order.
- Inspect finished parts for quality and precision using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to maintain product quality.
Programming and Setup
- Input CNC machine programs based on engineering drawings and specifications.
- Set up tools and materials needed for the CNC machines.
- Collaborate with engineers and programmers to troubleshoot and optimize CNC operations.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of production runs, including machine settings, material usage, and inspection results.
- Report any issues, defects, or deviations from specifications to the supervisor promptly.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and safety.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements to management and engineering teams.
Requirements
Knowledge and Skill Preferences
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical certification in CNC machining or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Familiarity with CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code)
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and tools
- Basic computer skills for data entry and machine programming
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods
Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Work Environment
Manufacturing floor with exposure to machinery noise and potential hazards
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
