Job Summary and Responsibilities

Summary:          

 

A Drill Operator I is responsible for operating directional drills safely and accurately. They will also assist other crew members as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensure locates are correct
  • Safely operate Directional Boring rigs
  • Ensure safe operation of any support equipment
  • Constantly communicate with crew members
  • Ensure potholes are dug prior to crossing utilities
  • Maintains accuracy in all reporting functions
  • Assist with JSA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditions
  • Assist Laborers with hand digging and pot holing when needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

SAFETY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to, promote, and accept personal responsibility for compliance to:
    • Federal and Local Occupational Safety and Health Regulations
    • Industry Consensus Standards
    • KGPCo Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manual
  • Participate in job site safety/hazard analysis
  • Must wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats and high visible vest when working on-site

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-5 years of experience operating Directional Boring rigs and walk over locating
  • Ability to operate or learn all heavy equipment as needed: boring rigs, mini excavators, backhoes, trenches etc.
  • Class A CDL is preferred but required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on occasion and up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • A high level of time management, organizational skills, problem solving, solution oriented, accountability, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to understand utility locates
  • Ability to review and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to detect wearing parts and maintenance
  • Determine proper down hole tooling needed “backreaming”
  • Ability to give direction, adapt to change, establish relationships, and assume responsibility for work outcomes
  • Knowledge of public safety and security issues and regulations

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.

REASONING ABILITY

 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
