Driver, Feed Haul

Description

JOB SUMMARY:
Primarily responsible for exercising safe driving practices ensuring their safety and the safety of the public. Responsible for operating commercial motor vehicle with a capacity of 24 tons of product, gross weight of 40 tons, to deliver feed to specific farms in North & South Carolina in a safe and secure manner. The average round trip distance is 85 miles, normally four loads in the 12-hour period.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Valid Class A CDL and current medical card with 1-year verifiable satisfactory driving record.
2. Minimum 21 years of age.
3. Knowledge of Department of Transportation, State and Federal Laws.
4. Experience: CDL Driving with 3 years (Preferred)
5. Ability to read and write legibly; Basic math functions and skills
6. Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
7. Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
8. High School Diploma or equivalent.
9. Previous tractor trailer driving experience preferred not required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to Shift Supervisor. There are no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Comply with all Department of Transportation regulations. safety rules and regulations, all company policies, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
2. Ensure secure load before movement.
3. Maintain proper documentation (i.e. equipment, time, trips, weight, etc.).
4. Report truck and equipment maintenance issues to supervisor.
5. Inspect truck and trailer as per D.O.T. requirements - pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Follow Department of Transportation, State and Federal laws, and company safety policies and programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Able to walk on catwalk, and climb stairs.
2. Work in outside environment (including inclement weather) daily.
3. Be able to sit and drive for lengthy hours and climb in and out of truck cab multiple times throughout shift.
4. Work in noisy environment and moving equipment.

Qualifications

While performing these duties, the driver will climb the steps to the dispatch office at least four times daily, possibly more.  The driver may have to climb the feed bin to open the bin lid and may have to climb the feed bin to close the lid (bin height approximately 20 feet).  Driver may have to climb on top of trailer to open top lids.  This will require walking the length of the trailer (40 feet) on a cat walk to complete the lid opening.
