Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for exercising safe driving practices ensuring their safety and the safety of the public. Responsible for operating commercial motor vehicle transporting live poultry from growers to the processing facility in a safe and secure manner. Seasonal shifts, may work weekends, holidays and long hours.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Class A CDL and current medical card with 1-year verifiable satisfactory driving record.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation, State and Federal Laws.
- Experience: CDL Driving with 3 years (Preferred)
- Ability to read and write legibly; Basic math functions and skills
- Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
- Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous live poultry tractor trailer driving experience preferred not required.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the Transportation Manager. There are no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Comply with all Department of Transportation regulations. safety rules and regulations, all company policies, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
- Ensure secure load before movement.
- Maintain proper documentation (i.e. equipment, time, trips, weight, etc.).
- Report truck and equipment maintenance issues to supervisor.
- Inspect truck and trailer as per D.O.T. requirements - pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- All other duties as assigned.
Safety Requirements:
- Follow Department of Transportation, State and Federal laws, and company safety policies and programs.
Physical Demands:
- Work in outside environment (including inclement weather) daily.
- May have to handle live Turkeys weighing up to 5 pounds
Qualifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Driving the unit.
- Opening and closing the coop doors (may have to help walk poults away from the trailer when it is unloaded)
- If heavy rains are falling, will have to insert 4 fiberglass panels (2' x 3' x 1/8" panel) in front of trailer to protect poults from sheets of water thrown up from tractor drive tires.
- Driver has to pump fuel for his truck at the company main office.
PAY:
- Drivers are paid according to loads hauled per pay period.
