Circle Seafoods is looking for energetic, hardworking people to join our team at the Metlakatla plant. If you have worked in the industry before, please be sure to highlight that on your resume, or any skillset that would apply!
Job Overview:
Duties include: sorting, weighing, racking, moving, and boxing salmon as well as assisting with side-projects as needed. Opportunities to grow into lead roles operating heavy equipment, leading key areas, and developing key skill sets as the season develops.
Key Responsibilities: This role necessitates that the candidate can meet the physical demands, such as: standing for extended periods, performing repetitive motions with hands, arms, legs, and back, lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly, engaging in frequent rotations and twisting at the waist, working long hours in cold/wet environments for up to 7 days a week, and maintaining prompt and consistent attendance.
Salmon Processing: Duties include sorting, weighing, and packing salmon. May also include guiding products into automated machinery and cleaning/sanitizing the work area. There is no slime-line, but there are buying, sorting, weighing, and packaging areas. Other duties may also be assigned. Working under the guidance of management and skilled laborers, helping with various tasks.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment, including wearing appropriate safety gear and reporting hazards.
Quality Control: Adhere to all sanitation and product quality policies.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Able to work in a physically demanding environment on a remote island in Alaska
- Must be able to stand and work for long hours in an often wet and cold environment
- Must have a basic understanding of English, including the ability to follow written or oral instructions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate a forklift/heavy equipment is a plus
Work Environment: This role involves working on your feet for long hours, both indoors and outdoors. Physical activities include lifting ~ 50 lbs, bending, standing, and moving throughout the day.
Compensation: This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay. Extensive overtime is frequently required with total workdays up to 16 hours. During peak Salmon season we are sometimes open 7 days a week, workdays vary Sunday through Saturday. Workdays and shift times will vary with seafood deliveries and other factors.
