Job Summary: The Weigh-Up Supervisor oversees the accurate preparation, labeling, and staging of ingredients in a food manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with quality, food safety, and regulatory standards. Leading a team of operators, they manage shift operations, enforce company policies, and optimize processes to enhance efficiency and minimize waste. They also coordinate with cross-functional teams to maintain seamless production workflows and address operational challenges.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety and continuous improvement, ensuring batching operations contribute to overall production goals.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise staff attendance and coordinate with management on personnel issues. Provide recommendations and input into employee evaluations and disciplinary processes.
- Plan daily operations with team leads, ensuring material readiness and efficient job assignment rotations.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate team members to maintain a skilled and efficient workforce.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to ensure production goals are met.
- Enforce company policies, handle time-off requests, and ensure proper timekeeping.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Shift & Production Oversight
- Open the facility for the shift, ensuring all areas are properly set up and ready for operations.
- Obtain and verify necessary paperwork and operational plans from the production office.
- Conduct and document GMP checklists to ensure adherence to safety and quality protocols.
- Oversee weigh-up processes to ensure accurate preparation of ingredients according to specified formulations and production schedules.
- Support cross-departmental needs, such as assisting with packing, scheduling breaks, or troubleshooting production issues.
- Address production issues, including equipment failures, product spills, incorrect formulations, or damaged materials, promptly reporting issues to the appropriate departments.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure all equipment used in weigh-up (e.g., scales, pumps, and other weighing devices) is functioning correctly and calibrated as needed.
- Ensure tools and equipment, such as scales, scoops, and knives, are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored to support allergen control and production transitions.
- Verify raw material usage, including lot numbers, FIFO usage, and proper storage of raw materials and partials to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Collaborate with Quality personnel to verify the correct product, weight, lot number, and expiration date before merging ingredients.
- Oversee proper storage and handling of ingredients to prevent contamination or waste.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to company quality standards, including GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) requirements.
- Adhere to the allergen management program, ensuring that allergen controls are strictly followed during batching and cleaning processes to prevent cross-contamination.
- Conduct checks to verify batch accuracy and ingredient quality.
- Maintain thorough documentation for traceability and compliance purposes.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure the batching area meets OSHA and company safety requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and address any potential hazards promptly.
Process Improvement & Waste Reduction
- Monitor and reduce material loss through effective processes and practices.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement solutions to improve batching efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth production workflows and resolve operational challenges.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing or related environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish & English (required).
- Food manufacturing experience (strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of batching, weighing, and blending processes.
- Familiarity with food safety standards, including GMPs, HACCP, allergen programs, and OSHA requirements.
- Excellent organizational, communication, time management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and process control.
- Adept in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and job duties.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, and maneuvering of heavy ingredient containers or equipment.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving within the production facility.
- Exposure to a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures (cold, hot, or humid conditions), noise levels, and strong spice or food odors.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, hairnets, masks, and safety glasses, for extended periods.
Other Duties:
- Follow food safety and quality protocols.
- Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping and safe work practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
The pay range for this role is:
55,000 - 55,000 USD per year(Fort Worth, TX)
