Position Summary
The Engineering Chief of Staff is responsible for supporting the Senior Director of Engineering with all aspects of design engineering and manufacturing engineering for the Aerospace and Defense (A&D), Tampa location. Primary responsibilities include support for design of new product, sustaining engineering, research and development, engineering support functions, and the engineering test lab. The Engineering Chief of Staff works directly with the Chief Engineer and the Senior Process Engineering Manager in a cross-functional environment with other functional leaders within the business, providing robust support and partnership to Product Management, Sales & Marketing, Quality, Operations, Human Resources and Supply Chain.
Principal Activities
- Support the Sr. Director of Engineering in the organization and running of the department (staff meetings, annual planning, special assignments, etc.)
- Support the review of all new business opportunities for technical suitability and fit, risk and ensure a cost effective and producible solution is recommended
- Assist the Senior Director of Engineering and Chief Engineer to oversee all new product introduction programs to ensure technical, cost and schedule adherence to program expectations
- Develop and maintain clear understanding of engineering program scope, schedule, budget and business-case through detailed review of customer documents and other communications as assigned
- Support alignment of personnel with scope of engineering programs and help determine adequate staffing / resources
- Analyze and report on key operating metrics for the department
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Support factory operations at site for product, diagnostics and improvements
- Check test capabilities are aligned to program and product needs and ensure cost effective and schedule effective utilizations of assets as assigned
- Responsible for ensuring the department meets all training requirements
- Develop a high performing, data driven culture that deploys lean enterprise techniques to target and drive continuous improvement
- Develop and Champion procedure development and revisions
- Ability to work in an ambiguous environment
- All other duties and tasks as assigned
