Design Engineer
CIRCOR - Aerospace & Defense (A&D)
Location: Corona, CA
Reports To: Sr. Engineering Manager
The Design Engineer will support the design and development of Fluid Control and Actuation Products under the direction of a Sr. Principal Engineer and/or Sr. Engineering Manager. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including production, sales, quality, and program management, to develop cost-effective and manufacturable design solutions. The role also involves hands-on work in the test laboratory for design validation, prototype development, and product preparation.
You Will:
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs for Fluid Control and Actuation Products.
- Design complex, high-precision components to meet internal and external requirements.
- Provide technical support for both new and legacy products.
- Ensure compliance with engineering best practices, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation, including design reviews, analysis reports, and test procedures.
- Support sales and commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to business improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen events and Root Cause & Corrective Action activities.
- Assist in troubleshooting production issues, updating drawings, and supporting MRB (Material Review Board) activities.
- Apply mathematical and scientific analysis to inform design decisions.
- Continuously develop technical expertise through research, training, and workshops.
You Have:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Expertise in designing close-tolerance, machined-part mechanisms and assemblies.
- Experience in hydraulic and/or pneumatic product development.
- Knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic component and system sizing.
- Strong understanding of aerospace materials (metals, plastics, elastomers), manufacturing processes, and finishes.
- Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- SolidWorks proficiency (3D modeling/assembly & 2D drawings).
- Basic knowledge of stress and flow analysis.
- Strong communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
- Experience with technical writing and documentation.
- Familiarity with DFMEA, VAVE, DFM, DVP&R, CM, and Risk Assessment.
- Understanding of MIL-STD-810 and/or RTCA-DO-160 standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in project engineering, including requirements management and compliance.
- Proficiency in engineering tools such as MathCAD, Simulink, ANSYS, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with EPDM or other Product Data Management systems.
- Experience designing hydraulic/pneumatic test setups and fixtures.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
- 10 years of relevant industry experience.
Compensation
- Salary Range: $90,000 - $112,000 (depending on location, skills, and experience).
