Senior Design Engineer – Fluid Controls and Actuation
CIRCOR Aerospace & Defense (A&D)
Location: Corona, CA
Reports To: Sr. Engineering Manager
As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in the development of our Fluid Controls and Actuation Products. Reporting to the Sr. Principal Engineer or Sr. Engineering Manager, you’ll be hands-on from concept through validation—leading design efforts, collaborating cross-functionally, and driving innovation with a focus on producibility and performance.
This position is highly collaborative, requiring close coordination with engineering colleagues, suppliers, and internal departments like production, sales, quality, and program management in a concurrent engineering environment.
What You’ll Do
- Lead conceptual and detailed design of complex, high-performance fluid control and actuation products.
- Develop innovative solutions using sound engineering principles and industry best practices.
- Support and drive design validation efforts through testing, prototyping, and hands-on lab work.
- Provide technical support for legacy products and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation: design reviews, analysis reports, test procedures, and more.
- Assist sales and commercial teams with technical input throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in business improvement activities including Kaizen events, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate on troubleshooting efforts and contribute to MRB and drawing updates.
- Apply analytical and mathematical methods to inform and optimize design decisions.
- Stay current with industry trends and technologies through ongoing learning and development.
What You Bring
Must-Have Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- 10 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Expert in the design of close-tolerance machined mechanisms and assemblies.
- Strong background in hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems, including component/system sizing.
- Deep knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, and 2D drawings).
- Working knowledge of classical and/or advanced stress and flow analysis.
- Strong communication skills—written and verbal, technical and non-technical.
- Familiarity with DFMEA, VAVE, DFM, DVP&R, configuration management, and risk assessments.
- Understanding of MIL-STD-810 and/or RTCA-DO-160 standards.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with project engineering (requirements, compliance, estimating).
- Proficiency with tools such as MathCAD, Simulink, ANSYS, or other simulation software.
- Familiarity with EPDM or other Product Data Management systems.
- Experience designing hydraulic/pneumatic test setups and fixtures.
PAY RANGE: $125,000-$150,000. Pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
