Senior Metallurgist

Reports to: Engineering Defense Manager
About the Role
As a Senior Metallurgist, you will be the go-to expert on materials science, driving innovation and excellence in materials selection, treatment, and applications across our operations. Your expertise will span metals, coatings (ceramics, nitrides, paints), heat treatments, and beyond, ensuring that our design and manufacturing processes meet the highest standards.
You'll lead material development projects, collaborate across teams, and identify emerging technologies to support our product development and business growth. With a focus on execution and strategy, you'll ensure that CIRCOR stays at the forefront of material science and engineering innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Materials Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all pumps across the Defense and Industrial Group.
- Provide technical leadership in materials and technologies across multiple global sites and product platforms.
- Research and implement new technologies to meet product development needs, driving business growth.
- Develop partnerships with external technical communities, such as universities, research firms, and consultants.
- Plan, execute, and deliver material development projects aligned with business objectives.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with material recommendations, developments, and substitutions.
- Maintain a comprehensive library of material and process specifications.
- Serve as a technical liaison between CIRCOR and material suppliers.

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 5 years of experience leading cross-functional material technology projects.
- Expertise in welding, casting, heat treatment processes, and corrosion prevention.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and machining processes, particularly for metal products.
- Experience with fluid handling equipment (pumps, compressors, valves, controls) is a plus.
- Knowledge of military certifications and audits is preferred.
