Primary Objective of Position:
Responsible for custom electro-mechanical design of semi-automated and automated test equipment through the manufacturing build process, considering costs, time limitations, planning and other technical factors. Interact with external and internal customers throughout the design, build and support of product life cycle.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements and related technical data to determine feasibility of product proposal, considering costs, time limitation, planning and other technical factors.
- Consults with sales and customers as needed to satisfy customer objectives
- Applies engineering principles to develop effective designs for products, associated subsystems, components and structures which satisfy project and manufacturing requirements
- Participate in internal and external design reviews
- Optimizes design for cost, quality and manufacturability
- Researches and solves complex technical problems either independently, or by conferring with internal colleagues or consulting with outside experts
- Develops and maintain expertise in selected technical areas and act as a resource for others in the Department
Key Responsibilities of an FEA/Strain Gauge Engineer
- Creates finite element models of various parts based on the analysis result, assembling the same with respect to linear and non-linear structural domain
- Runs finite element modeling in various environments for checking its feasibility in structure
- Conducts finite element analysis in electrical, electro-magnetic and multi-physics environment
- Performs analytical studies for analyzing the mechanism of, dynamics, and force analysis
- Conduct SGT (strain gauge testing) to validate product design and manufacture to meet customer requirements.
Education and Experience:
- A 4 year college degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar disciple is required
- A minimum of one year previous work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail
- Technical competence, including the ability to create engineering drawings and designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD other 3D design packages and Ansys
- Solid analytical skills; able to resolve complex technical problems with innovative solutions
- Strong understanding and abilities to use Vishay strain gauge data collection
- Strong understanding of rosettes used for strain gauge testing, placement and data retrieval
- Provide documented evidence in the form of reports to end customers for both FEA and strain gauge results
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Capacity to deal with a high workload and deadline pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Requires a strong initiative, proactive nature and a sense of urgency
- Maintains confidentiality and security of intellectual property (ITAR, Prototype)
Physical Requirements (these physical requirements must be performed with or without accommodation):
- Majority of time is spent in usual office working conditions
- Ability to sit for extended lengths of time is required; bend, reach, stoop and twist as required
- Heavy use of an office computer for completing work
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration; risk of electrical shock.
- Regular exposure to manufacturing areas which may entail exposure to dirt, dust, noise, machine chemicals, fumes and other attributes common to this environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to work extended hours as job duties demand
