JOB DESCRIPTION
Essential Function and Responsibility:
The court safety coordinator is responsible for providing additional security support for the 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri and serves as the court liaison with the sheriff’s department, prosecutor’s office, and other law enforcement entities for court-related security issues. The court safety coordinator develops and facilitates implementation of court-security procedures with county
law enforcement and conducts regular threat and vulnerability assessments within the court. The position serves as a subject matter expert and advisor to the court administrator and Court en banc and develops and trains court personnel in basic safety and security processes.

The court administrator is the appointing authority and direct supervisor.

Characteristic and Assigned Duties: (The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties that the court safety coordinator may perform.)
Serves as the security coordinator for the 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri.
Acts as a liaison with law enforcement for court security issues and threats.
Aids the court administrator in the development of court security and emergency preparedness programs, policies, plans, training, and drills.
Manages and reports incoming threats and incidents to court buildings and personnel.
Provides coordination of information with the prosecutor’s office on court security issues as needed.
Provides personnel escort for judicial officers and court personnel as directed.
Handles public contact and staff support in contentious or hostile communications.
Mediates disputes and refers matters of enforcement to sworn officers.
Walks around court buildings and through facilities to provide security and observe activities of in and around the court buildings.
Prepares written documents, such as security reports and incident documentation.
Conducts security inspections to ensure conformance to established standards, rules, and safety protocols.
Visually monitors closed circuit cameras for suspicious activity.
Prepares responses to requests for information as directed.
The court safety coordinator may complete other tasks as assigned by the court administrator, presiding judge, and family court administrative judge and performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of security techniques and practices.
Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and threat mitigation.
Skill in security observation.
Ability to professionally report information in written form and oral presentations.
Ability to conduct threat assessments and develop emergency preparedness plans.
Ability to train court personnel in safety techniques and security best practices.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the judiciary, court administration, and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field with ten years of sworn law enforcement or court security experience.
