Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Bridge Inspection Apprentice to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting experienced inspectors in evaluating bridge condition, safety, and compliance with regulations; while gaining on-the-job training and certifications.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with Inspections: Participate in and assist with bridge inspections, observing and learning from experienced inspectors.
- Data Collection and Documentation: Help with gathering and recording data related to bridge condition; including measurements, observations, and photographs.
- Report Preparation: Assist in preparing inspection reports, documenting findings, and making recommendations for maintenance or repairs. May require preparing drawings of bridge elements and configurations.
- Learning and Training: Receive on-the-job training and classroom instruction to develop the necessary skills and knowledge for bridge inspection.
- Following Safety Procedures: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during bridge inspections.
- Assisting with Mobilization and Demobilization: Help with setting up and taking down equipment and materials for bridge inspections.
- Reviewing Bridge Data: Assist in reviewing inventory, inspection, and load rating data.
- Folder Preparation: Help with preparing ridge nspection folders.
- Monitoring and Reviewing Flagged Data: monitor and review "flagged" bridge data.
- Dependability & Reliability (essential): Prepare to begin work daily at the scheduled time.
- Sign Shop: Creating traffic/transportation signage, maintain inventory.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic Knowledge: A good understanding of basic construction and engineering principles is helpful.
- Attention to Detail: The ability to carefully observe and document details is essential.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel is important.
- Physical Stamina: Bridge inspections can involve working in various weather conditions and at heights, so a good level of physical fitness is needed.
- Safety Consciousness: A strong commitment to safety is essential.
- Ability to Follow Instructions: The ability to follow instructions and work under supervision is important.
- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with basic computer programs and software is helpful.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience: Some prior experience in construction can be an asset.
