About the Big Top Tour
The Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour is a professional traveling youth circus featuring talented troupers ages 10 to 18 who perform under a traditional big top tent. Each summer, the tour travels to multiple locations, bringing awe-inspiring performances to audiences across New England. Our dedicated road crew supports the production by handling logistics, tent operations, concessions, and ensuring the well-being of our performers and staff.
General Employment Information
All positions on the Big Top Tour are seasonal and require a commitment to traveling with the show. Room and board are provided, as well as meals during the tour. Staff members must be comfortable living and working in a close-knit, fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to the unique challenges of a traveling circus.
Job Summary
Tent Crew members are the backbone of the Big Top Tour, assisting with tent setup and teardown, equipment transport, and maintaining circus grounds. This physically demanding role is ideal for hardworking team players who enjoy hands-on work and being part of a traveling production. Experience with manual labor or event production is a plus, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are essential.
This is an approximately three-month seasonal position, June 18 - August 22, 2025.
Job Duties
Tent & Site Setup and Teardown
- Assist in the setup, maintenance, and teardown of the Big Top and support tents.
- Securely install tent poles, stakes, sidewalls, and rigging components.
- Help keep the performance area and circus grounds clean, organized, and safe.
- Be available to support other departments (e.g., rigging, concessions, or front-of-house) as needed.
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Must be able to lift at least 100 pounds and perform physically demanding labor.
- Comfortable working at heights and using ladders or climbing equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols and assist in emergency procedures when necessary.
- Monitor weather conditions and help secure the site during inclement weather.
Driving & Miscellaneous Duties
- Drive company vehicles as assigned (must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record).
- Assist in the set-up and tear down of back lot at the discretion of the Tour General Manager. Duties may include but are not limited to: Setting and leveling bunkhouses, running hoses and electrical cords, setting up dishwashing station, setting up picnic tables and dining tent.
