Blue Man Group Orlando is looking for a full-time Automation & Carpentry Lead.
The Automation & CarpentryLead is the main support for the Automation & Carpentry Head of Department. In addition to running shows, the Lead oversees all technical and safety aspects of departmental equipment including performing general troubleshooting and maintenance. This positionparticipates in the training and scheduling of all members of the department (in conjunction with the Automation & Carpentry HOD). Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. The ability to work with established deadlines is required. The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required. All crew positions work cross-departmentally and are not solely restricted to projects within their department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
· Assist in the training of all members of the Automation & Carpentry Department and provide ongoing training for members of the department to ensure cue consistency and safety;
· Maintain effective systems for clear communication of notes, changes, scheduling, and other company information to members of the Automation & CarpentryDepartment;
· Running shows each week on the Automation & Carpentrytrack;
· During the running of the show, perform all duties as outlined on the run sheets (including preset, show cues, turnover, and post-show) in a safe, professional, timely and efficient manner;
· Prepare regular updates to run sheets as needed;
· Participate in all show contingency and emergency evacuation rehearsals;
· Maintainall relevant technical elements of the show under the Head of Automation & Carpentryas directed;
· Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise;
· Maintain open communication about the inventory of equipment and supplies, as well as any show notes, technical problems or concerns;
· Maintenance, cleaning, and organization of workspaces;
· Adhere to safety rules and regulations for locality and department;
· Support gigs, trainings, rehearsals, and marketing events;
· Participate in load-in and load-out and lend assistance to other departments as needed;
· All other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

· The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required;
· Extensive knowledge behind the mechanics of theatrical automated and rigging systems;
· Understanding the type of equipment utilized in automated show control including control consoles, motor control and safety systems;
· Prior experience operating an automation show console for multiple axes preferred;
· Basic knowledge of power transmission components, pneumatics, and electricity;
· Experience working in a harness with tools and equipment while hanging or standing near exposed drop offs;
· Basic knowledge of commonly used rigging equipment, tools, hardware and safe rigging practices;
· Working with rope and knot tying;
· Having a general knowledge of metal shop work, performing tasks such as cutting, grinding, drilling, welding and demonstrating the safe utilization of various shop machine and hand tools;
· Having a general knowledge of wood shop work, performing tasks such as cutting, sanding, routing and demonstrating the safe utilization of various shop machines and hand tools;
· Experience with the operation of various lifts including fork trucks, articulating booms, scissor and single man lifts;
· Project Management;
· The ability to work effectively in low-light environments;
· Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
· Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
· Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
· At least 5 years of previous experience or in a similar environment;
· Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;
· Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, or a similar field; or equivalent relevant work experience;
· Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Ability to clearly and effectively communicate viaheadset;
· Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
· Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. This is a full-time hourly position and has a Competitive Benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Life Insurance and 401K Plans. The compensation is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided upon elements related, but not limited to: skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
