Full-Time Position
We are looking for a Lighting Manager to join the Technical Services team for Resident Shows. The Lighting Manager, reporting to the Senior Director of Technical Services, Residents, will work in collaboration with the Show Technical Directors and Heads of Departments (HODs)to manage assigned projects for equipment and systems. This position is also key in ensuring teams areconsistently operating at the highest quality standards, identifying opportunities to be more efficient and providing teams with appropriate communication and resources.
The Lighting Manager will:
· Be the technical expert for Lighting and Special Effects, providing guidance and leadership to show teams, ensuring all department-specific equipment and systems are being operated and maintained, according to company standards and timelines;
· With the Technical Services team, establish best practices for standard operating procedures, safety procedures and training and information sharing; Ensure shows are trained on and using practices;
· Develop and implement relevant training programs, ensuring completion and knowledge retention;
· Oversee and continuously improve department’s documentation practices, ensuring teams are in compliance and have a thorough understanding of resources for various systems, such as, but not limited to: SharePoint, AutoCAD/Solidworks, MaintainX, SDS, HSI, Electrical Safety;
· In collaboration with Technical Services and show leadership, advise on budgetary needs for department-related elements, such as, but not limited to: general operations, show improvements and capital projects, including budgeting and meeting timelines;
· Be responsible for the efficient management of labor and material within parameters set by the Senior Director Technical Services;
· Support shows with ongoing projects, evaluating the service level agreement for training, initial and ongoing support; Work with Technical Services team to establish clear goals, priorities and timelines;
· Evaluate and oversee assigned projects with show leadership, including the budget planning, research, purchasing, installation, testing, troubleshooting, integration and ongoing maintenance and inspection of all equipment and systems required for any department-related elements or needs that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed; Maintain flexible schedule for such projects;
· Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the shows; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
· Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
· Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
· At least 10 years of previous experience working in Lighting on large-scale live productions;
· At least 4 years of previous experience in running a technical department with large-scale productions;
· Expert knowledge of Lighting systems – operation, programming, troubleshooting and maintenance;
· Strong knowledge of Special Effect elements – operation, troubleshooting and maintenance;
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, be self-motivated, highly organized and able to delegate;
· In-depth knowledge and previousexperience installing and maintaining large-scale theatrical lighting systems and equipment;
· Working knowledge of database management software, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint); Knowledge AutoCAD, WYSIWYG and Vectorworks is an asset;
· Expert knowledge and ability to train in the principles of:
o AC/DC electricity;
o Basic electronics;
o Electrical Safety;
o Computer operations, as it pertains to lighting systems.
· Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card;
· Availability to work varied shifts; Including the ability to travel, both domestic and internationally;
· Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
· High school diploma or GED completion;
· Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility. · Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
