Job Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist
Position Summary:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) is responsible for providing support to students, staff, and families by implementing behavior intervention strategies that foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. The BIS collaborates with educators, administrators, and other support staff to develop and implement behavioral plans that promote student success in both academic and social settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and analyze student behaviors to identify triggers, patterns, and functions of behavior.
- Develop and implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students in need of additional behavioral support.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate behavior strategies into classroom management and instructional practices.
- Provide direct intervention and support to students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Train and support staff in behavior management techniques, de-escalation strategies, and positive behavior reinforcement methods.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) as needed.
- Facilitate communication with families regarding student behavioral progress and provide strategies for home support.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, when applicable.
- Promote a positive school climate by implementing school-wide behavioral initiatives and social-emotional learning strategies.
- Stay current with best practices in behavior intervention and attend professional development as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field.
- Experience working with children in an educational or therapeutic setting, preferably in behavior intervention.
- Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and crisis intervention techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to assess, develop, and implement effective behavior plans.
- Familiarity with special education laws and procedures is a plus.
- Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar behavior management programs is preferred.
Work Environment:
The BIS will work in a school environment, providing support in classrooms, small group settings, and one-on-one interactions with students. The role may require physical intervention in crisis situations and flexibility in adapting to various educational settings.
Reports to: School Principal or Director of Student Services

Certificate and License Requirements:
Must be eligible for a Clearance Certificate issued through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
