Description : Job Purpose :

Under the general direction of the Parts Manager the Parts Outside Sales Representative I is accountable for selling parts to customers.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Assist customers in selecting parts by explaining features, benefits, and warranty of merchandise.
  • Inform customers of companion part requirements, full product lines, and product offerings.
  • Provide price quotes and other information to customers via phone and in person.
  • Process payments and obtain credit authorization as necessary.
  • Manage and maintain customer accounts as assigned by manager.
  • Solicit and prospect for new customers by means such as cold calling.
  • Process returns collected from customers while on assigned routes.
  • Stage and manage orders for customer delivery.
  • Locate parts for customers among inventory companywide.
  • Partner with warehouse employees to pull ticket orders for customers.
  • Utilize resources to determine the availability and lead times of parts.
  • Place orders for parts that are temporarily out of stock through a back ordering system.
  • Build relationships with customers in order to better meet their needs.
  • Operate delivery vehicles safely, obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
  • Coordinate with others in the parts department to troubleshoot issues as necessary.
  • Manage time effectively and efficiently.
  • Operate a forklift as necessary.

Education & Qualifications :

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2 years of related experience preferred
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card (box truck locations only)
  • Clean driving record required
  • Requirements : Required Skills :

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Capable of working under direction with some supervision and receiving guidance as necessary.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as financial reports, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical procedures. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and to respond to common inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense to solve practical problems and deal with variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient computer skills including e-mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
  • The ability to operate a forklift safely.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern, according to a specific rule or set of rules.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • The ability to comply with safety and compliance policies.
  • Physical Requirements :

    This position requires moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primary administrative nature. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, and exert strength with arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth, distance, near, and peripheral vision as well as the ability to adjust focus.

    Working Conditions :

    The employee is rarely exposed to fumes or airborne particles, improperly illuminated and confined space, operating above ground, and forklift operation. The employee is frequently subject to lifting and carrying objects. This position operates in a well-lit indoor shop environment with heating and / or air-conditioning with adequate ventilation. Employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. This position operates in a well-lit indoor shop environment with heating and / or air-conditioning and frequently operates vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Daily travel is required
