USPB Credit Review Head
Head of Personal Banking Credit Review (PBCR)
The Head of Personal Banking Credit Review is responsible for setting the strategy for and leading the global PBCR team that supports the Head of Global Risk Review (GRR) in the assessment of credit exposures in Citi’s personal banking and wealth businesses.
Key responsibilities:
- Set the global strategy for PBCR Reviews based on emerging risk trends as well as regulatory and/or stakeholder expectations
- Identify and assess emerging product risk trends
- Engagement with Business Heads, Independent Risk management, and Regulators for regular reporting on Review outcomes, identified risk issues and Corrective Action Plans, as well as to formulate strategic priorities for PBCR Reviews
- Approve inventory of PBCR Review Entities, horizontal/Focused Reviews, and PBCR Coverage Plans
- Ensure adequate leadership, staffing, training, and development for the function
- Review and assess product-specific credit standards, policies, and processes to promote leading practices and enhance global consistency
- Partner with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of GRR for modification and/or enhancement of PBCR processes and standards
- Ensure consistent implementation of PBCR processes and adherence to GRR Manual standards
- Approve PBCR reports for senior management, Citi’s Board of Directors, and regulatory authorities
- Facilitate relationship with key external Regulators, Internal Audit, and control functions
- Partner with GRR Management and other global function/business partners on strategic initiatives/projects
- Serve as key member of GRR Management team, contributing to the development of organizational culture, participating in GRR Management meetings and GRR Town Halls, and providing input on critical decisions across the organization
- Act as the global liaison to Learning and Development for consumer credit training and course development
- Support VOE initiatives for GRR
- Travel required (25%)
Knowledge/Experience:
- Demonstrable financial services experience including 15 years of credit experience in retail banking
- Expert knowledge of retail banking products and their credit cycle
- A proactive and “no surprises” approach in communicating issues and strength in sustaining independent views.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills with attention to detail, with experience in dealing with senior management committees and board risk management committees.
- Fully conversant in credit policy matters and accrual concepts in risk management
- Familiar with the use of statistical tools and models across the credit risk management lifecycle
- Proven sound judgment and ability to identify emerging risks
- Advance knowledge of regulatory frameworks or relevant experience in a similar role at another institution
- Knowledge of Citi's Consumer Credit Policies, organizations, and systems
- Expert in risk analysis and risk management processes across the full Consumer lending spectrum
Skills/Competencies:
- Demonstrated history of high ethical standards and discretion in dealing with highly confidential Board and Senior Management material
- Strong executive presence and leadership skills
- Strategic orientation to ensure the function continues to be positioned as a thoughtful, trusted, and proactive partner to Senior Management on credit risk management matters and on driving best practices to support safety and soundness in the region
- Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and exert influence with and without direct authority
- Capable of managing difficult conversations, resolving conflicts and dealing with sensitive and/or controversial issues
- Demonstrated success as a manager including a track record of building high performing teams and developing emerging VP/SVP/Director level talent
- Advanced analytical skills, with ability to identify root causes and trends and anticipate horizon issues
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage large review teams in different regions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority
Qualifications:
- BA/BSc or higher degree in Business (MBA), Finance or any other related subject
- Senior Credit Officer designation or equivalent is required
