Facilities and Maintenance Support
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Under general supervision, works independently and performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair tasks; and performs related duties as required. Incumbents in this class perform maintenance and mechanical duties for assigned buildings and related facilities, furnishings, and equipment. The required duties may include painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, cement work, heating, welding, roofing, and related work. Incumbents may work independently, under supervision as a Laborer, or as a lead laborer over others to accomplish specific projects.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)
• Follows direction to fulfill facilities maintenance plans
- Repairs structures; builds and installs cabinets, partitions, blackboards, and shelves; repairs furniture and equipment; installs floor coverings, acoustical ceilings, and window glass; repairs roofs, floors, doors, locks, and related items.
• Follows goals and standards of performance as directed
- Performs electrical repairs such as replacing switches and wiring and water lines; repairs faucets, sewers, plumbing, boiler room equipment, pumps, check valves, boiler lines, heating and ventilating systems, water systems, and other equipment.
• Follows company compliance with regulations set forth by all state and federal regulations and CEO.
- Paints building interiors and exteriors, furniture, cement, and other materials and items; pours and finishes concrete.
• Needs to report updates as instructed by immediate supervisor or other management as required.
- Estimates materials, labor, and time needed for projects; operates light automotive equipment to travel to facilities throughout the County and to transport materials, furniture, and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environmental Conditions
Most duties in this class are performed under periodically disagreeable working conditions, including: working outside, at times in inclement weather; and exposure to water, dust, dirt, grease, paint fumes, chemicals, and equipment noise and vibration.
Physical Conditions
Positions in this class require frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and less frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Examples include the ability to: carry a 90pound bag of cement, carry an extension ladder, and use a 14-pound sledge hammer.
Incumbents in positions in this class are also required to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, walk and run. Examples include the ability to: shovel or dig in the ground, kneel to lay carpet, bend, twist, and stretch while painting, climb up and down an extension ladder, climb up and down stairs, walk on the roof of a building or uneven surfaces, and run to shut off water when a water line has ruptured.
Driving Conditions
Positions in this class are required to drive and operate vehicles and machinery. Examples include the ability to:
drive a truck, drive a tractor, and operate a forklift.
Qualifications
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time
Workweek schedule: Monday through Friday. (On call weekends and nights when required)
Hours of work: _7:30 a.m. to _4:00 p.m.
Hours and schedules may vary depending on Company need and workload. Employees will be given as much advance notice as possible when such changes occur.
Travel
Must travel to job sites throughout the agency; using company vehicle
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma and/or GED
2. Two years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance or building trades
3. Maintain company requirements for driving agency vehicles and POVs
Additional Qualifications:
Possession of a valid New York Class C Driver's License.
Knowledge of: the materials, tools, methods, and equipment used in a building trade, such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, cement work, and electrical work; repair methods and maintenance practices for structures, furnishings, and equipment; work safety practices.
Ability to: prepare estimates of time, materials, and labor; work from plans and specifications; work with limited supervision; follow oral and written instructions; form and maintain effective working relationships with others; provide supervision, training, and assistance to others as required.
