JOB TITLE: Optician
ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Health Services
Department: Medical Clinic
SUPERVISOR: Clinic Manager/Optometrist
FLSA: Non-exempt
SALARY RANGE: $12.50 - $24.99
CPN Health Services personnel may be assigned to provide services to patients of all ages including but not limited to Indian Children and will require a criminal history background screening.
ALL FULL TIME POSITIONS: In addition to your pay, your salary also includes Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. The Biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for Employee Only, $95.00 Employee plus Children, $120.00 Employee plus Spouse, and $140.00 Employee plus family.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting patients with filling prescriptions for glasses orders, fittings and filling in for Optometry Assistant as needed. Provide clerical and administrative support for the Optometry department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assisting patients with selection of frames and lens materials which are needed for different prescriptions.
· Accurately use a digital pupilometer to accurately measure pupillary distances.
· Must be able to properly fit and adjust progressive lenses as needed (a critical skill).
· Must be able to do small repairs like changing nose pads, replace missing screws, repair missing lenses on semi-rimless frames with the “fishing line.”
· Must be proficient in adjusting glasses.
· Reviews optometric lab invoices for accuracy and completeness to submit to billing.
· Responsible for sending patients to our Benefits Specialist when indicated.
· Responsible for scheduling of patients as needed and coordinating patients that need assistance with their frames or lenses.
· Responsible for maintaining and tracking of the providers’ schedule changes in reference to patient appointments.
· Cross trains to the duties of the Optometry Assistant to provide coverage when needed.
· Reconciles invoices with glasses vendor prior to sending to Accounts Payables clerk.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
· Perform other duties and projects as required by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· The ability to communicate well with patients, providers, and other staff.
· The ability to maintain computer data.
· Experienced with fitting patients and knowledgeable in different lens materials.
· Must be self-motivated.
· The ability to handle multi-tasks.
· Good organization and analytical skills are needed.
· Good judgment is needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Clerical experience.
· Two years of experience as Optician preferred.
· Medical Terminology preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· The ability to be seated or standing for prolonged periods of time.
· Repetitive work at a computer.
· Some lifting, bending, stretching, and kneeling may be required.
· The ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.
· Compliance with all immunization requirements to work in a healthcare setting.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
· Health facility office environment.
