POSITION TITLE: Transmission Planner
REPORTS TO: VP of Engineering
OBJECTIVES:
Provide electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the transmission system. Perform system studies, analyze operating results, develop solutions to current or future system issues, and appropriately report findings and recommendations. Participate and coordinate with MISO on various working groups and model development. Prepare reports with project justifications for budgetary purposes and regulatory bodies. Applies transmission planning techniques, procedures and criteria using professional judgement in making adaptations and modifications. Has responsibility for system planning including compliance with MISO and NERC regulatory planning standards, requirements, and guidelines.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering degree. Professional Engineering license is desirable. Five or more years of experience preferred. Prior experience with MISO (or other RTO) and NERC standards and compliance procedures is preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must understand all functions of a transmission power system including: a thorough knowledge of the transmission planning processes, reliability standards, substation design, transmission line design, protective relaying. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, NERC compliance standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed most frequently indoors sitting at a desk, but often outdoors as well. Travel includes going to the substations and residence of members. Fire resistant garments are required when working in the field. Fieldwork can be in a high voltage environment (e.g., inside substations).
Responds to needs of the corporation during outage situations, which includes 24/7 support. Overtime and overnight travel may be required.
Salary : $102,000 - $145,000
