The successful candidate performs all types of unskilled manual labor and certain semi-skilled labor necessary to maintain safe, continuous, and efficient operation of wastewater plants and lift stations in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations, and practices. Note: Work schedules are fixed and rotating shifts as needed to ensure 24-hour coverage 7 days a week.

This is a bargaining union position and a member of #725 AFSCME. Grade WW01. Hourly rate is $28.58. Work Schedule is Monday through Friday, 06:00 AM EST to 03:30 PM EST or 07:00 AM EST to 03:30 PM EST with overtime and on-call expectations. Please see below.
- Perform housekeeping tasks at wastewater plants and lift-station facilities including but not limited to; cleaning, sweeping, mopping and trash removal. Grounds maintenance; snow removal, mowing, weeding, mulching, trimming of landscape and debris removal as directed. Operate equipment to complete various tasks including but not limited to: snowplows, salt spreaders, lawn mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, portable pumps, skid loaders, forklifts, front loaders and vacuum trucks.
- Preparation and painting of internal and external plants and lift-station facilities, including all equipment, piping and hardware.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance, including but not limited to; air filter changes, lubrication of equipment and assist maintenance and operations with tasks as directed.
- Utilize firehose to wash down large areas such as process and storage tanks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by area supervisors.
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Must pass a heat stress test if requested
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work overtime as circumstances require and share on-call responsibilities
- Must maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
- Previous wastewater plant and collections system experience
- Relevant work experience or course work related to a skilled trade
