What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Coach position at Citizens for Citizens Head Start?
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide onsite coaching for Educators using the Practice Based Coaching (PBC) model.
- Recognize the unique abilities and strengths of individuals while building a trusting, positive, supportive relationship.
- Conduct observations and create action plans.
- Establish and maintain consistent and regular coaching schedules (weekly, bi-weekly) with staff.
- Support Educators in brainstorming solutions to challenging behaviors as they arise.
- Complete observations and collect data around a specific child and their incidences of identified challenging behaviors, in order to inform planning.
- Analyze information to determine the meaning of the child’s behavior, possible triggers, and replacement skills needed.
- Encourage, support, motivate and work interactively with staff to develop and implement goals. Demonstrate and model innovative and effective strategies to improve teaching practices such as:
- Actively implement positive behavioral interventions.
- Manage disruptive behaviors, creating a safe and structured environment
- Teaching coping mechanisms
- Monitor child’s progress to address their unique needs, all while prioritizing the child’s safety and well-being
- Potentially work with the local school district as necessary to provide classroom based coaching to support participation for children with disabilities and /or behavioral and social emotional needs.
- Generate necessary documentation to support the Education Specialists/Coordinator in monitoring classroom quality by meeting monthly.
- Facilitate large group training for staff during in service/ professional development days throughout the year.
- Conduct Together Learning & Collaborating (TLC) groups throughout the year.
- Participate in ongoing evaluation and assessment of C.F.C. coaching plan.
- Be organized, flexible and sensitive to the needs of staff and the families we serve.
- Be able to engage in activities that include bending, floor activities, and lifting up to 50 lbs. and or young children birth to 5 years of age.
Qualifications:
- At a minimum, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Special Education with knowledge and /or training in evidenced based coaching practice and have at least 3 years experience in a preschool classroom.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood may be considered depending upon the experience working with children with special needs and disabilities.
- Must display a professional attitude and appearance consistent with Head Start Performance Standards and Early Childhood Education principles. Ability to work well with low-income children and their families. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Experience working with children with challenging behaviors.
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday, 35 Hours per week, Minimum 43 weeks per year

Physical requirements:
- To be up and running 4 hours a day to support children with disabilities & those who display challenging behavior. To physically support a child who weighs up to 75 pounds. To be able to carry 25 pounds and to lift 50 pounds.
- Must have a physical every two years. A physician’s certificate is required. New employees must have proof of TB test within the prior year. Thereafter, employees must have assessment of TB every year
