Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) seeks a passionate and dedicated policy associate to join our policy team and help us secure our democracy and build a better Washington. Responsibilities:
- Support the policy team’s work creating and implementing effective strategies to advocate for improvements in government ethics, government accountability, rule of law, and transparency regimes;
- Oversee, in cooperation with in-house CREW experts, the organization’s transparency and oversight policy portfolios, including attending coalition meetings, monitoring legislation, and drafting letters as appropriate;
- Coordinate outreach, including to Capitol Hill offices and other outside organizations, to help share CREW’s expertise with others, including by documenting meetings and participating in conference calls;
- Implement and manage systems for monitoring and tracking legislation and communication with legislative stakeholders and tracking the organization’s lobbying hours;
- Draft weekly updates to be sent to all staff with upcoming Hill hearings and relevant policy developments;
- Track the policy team’s expenses and submit reimbursement requests as needed; and
- Work closely with the Vice President for Policy, Policy Director, and policy team members on a variety of tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-4 years of experience in project management or policy advocacy
- Experience with project management bringing together the work of a diverse set of individuals
- An interest in ethics, democracy reform, legislative process, and/or government transparency issues
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- The ability to work collaboratively
- Willingness to learn how to use new tracking tools and software (preferred: previous experience using Quorum)
- Outstanding research and analytical skills
- Great writing and communication skills
- Initiative to identify needs, take charge of tasks, and get things done in an exciting, fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment, including the ability to work effectively with coalition partners
The position is based in Washington, D.C. but is flexible with employees able to split their time between working from home and working in the office. The Policy Associate reports to the Policy Director.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 based on experience and qualifications.
