Position Information:
Responsible for: Resident billing and collections; resident fund maintenance (when applicable); government reports as well as corporate reports; A/R management; other duties as assigned by their supervisor in accordance with all federal state and local laws and regulations and established corporate policies and practices. Reports to the Administrator for accounting and operational activities.
Responsible to Prairie Senior administration
Days: Monday through Friday
Hours: 8 am to 5 pm
Pay Range: Dependent upon experience.
What you’ll do:
- Responsible for all resident accounting and bookkeeping functions including: maintaining and updating the census; posting payments and charges to resident ledgers; balancing daily receipts; collecting delinquent accounts and if necessary, recommends appropriate delinquent accounts for collection agency turnover; maintaining and updating resident trust funds.
- Process monthly billing including: verifying Medicare/Medicaid eligibility and coverage days available; analyzing each bill and/or claim for accuracy and completeness; submitting appropriate statements and/or claims to Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance and private paying entities.
- Maintain and update resident accounts by: interviewing residents or their representative to arrange a payment method; securing information on a resident’s or potential resident’s financial status; evaluate the resident’s financial status and make recommendations to approve or deny an extension of credit.
- Verify resident account balances are accurate and that charges and statements are prepared and submitted accurately and timely.
- Develop, encourage and maintain good communications with other departments, residents, their representatives and family members, other staff and visitors.
- Communicate and work in cooperation with fiscal intermediaries, accountants, auditors, cost report preparers, local, state and federal agencies and private insurance companies.
- Maintain, organize and update resident financial files, billing documents, reports, remittance statements and other pertinent data related to the billing and collection functions of the business office.
- Follow up on claims using the online Medicare/Medicaid billing system and other systems as appropriate.
- Accumulate, maintain and generate accurate statistics and reports.
- Complete other duties as assigned
What you bring to the table:
- Minimum of AS Degree in business related field or equivalent experience.
- One year in long-term care, hospital or other health care institution, preferably processing Medicare/Medicaid claims during that time.
- Two years’ office management experience preferred.

Typical Working Conditions:
Requires sitting at a desk while answering the telephone, moving throughout the facility as needed.
