JOB SUMMARY
In collaboration with Cardiovascular Associates Physicians, the Advanced Practice Provider provides medical management in the ambulatory clinic and hospital settings for adults, including acute, general, and preventive care. The primary responsibility is to extend clinical services in the delivery of high-quality patient care. The practitioner will also perform administrative duties related to the practice of medicine.
Job Specific:
- In collaboration with Cardiovascular Associates physicians, provides cardiovascular medical management in the ambulatory clinic and hospital settings for adults, including acute, general, and preventative care. (EF)
- Conducts physical examination, assesses patient health status including state of wellness and compliance with care plan, determines appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and prescribes appropriate medication regimen. (EF)
- Provides oversight of pharmacological and exercise nuclear stress tests. (EF)
- Completes initial and maintains annual Cardiac Stress Test Competency requirements. (EF)
- Provides oversight of patients during cardiac exercise stress test and stress echocardiogram. (EF)
- Provides oversight of CMC Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation sessions effective January 2024. (EF)
- Works in coordination and cooperation with hospital departments, hospital management personnel, physicians, all hospital staff members, patients, and visitors. (EF)
- Completes chart review with collaborative physician and submits to manager upon completion by the end of each quarter. (EF)
- Must be able to work effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion, and diplomacy. (EF)
- Complete and maintain adequate and proper medical records with respect to all patients examined or treated in accordance with all legal, accreditation, regulatory and third-party payer requirements. (EF)
- Participate as a provider of medical services with third party payers, including any HMO and/or PPO, with which Hospital contracts. (EF)
- Regularly attends Cardiovascular Program quality and business meetings. (EF)
- Maintains excellent working relationships and communication with the other Cardiovascular Associates and CMC Cardiovascular Program Team Members. (EF)
- Must demonstrate leadership and teaching ability.
- Primary schedule is Monday-Friday daytime shift; however, some weekend and holiday shifts will be required. (EF)
Hospital:
- Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
- Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
- Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: This position can be filled by a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician’s Assistant.
Nurse Practitioners:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Texas
- Minimum of Master of Science in Nursing
- Certification by an agency approved by the American Nurses Association
Physician Assistant
- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistant
- Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physicians Assistant Examiners
Preferred: Additional Education and/or training specific to the care of cardiac patients.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum of two years of experience in direct patient care of adult cardiovascular patients at the level of RN or above.
Preferred: At least one year of experience in Cardiology Clinic setting and/or hospital Cardiac Care Unit preferred. Clinical background in ER, ICU, and/or Cardiac Cath Lab experience strongly preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required: The Advanced Provider will diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions and emphasize health promotion and disease prevention. Services include but are not limited to: Ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies, teaching, and counseling. The Advanced Practice Provider practices autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to manage the health needs of each patient. Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate commitment to superior customer service with each internal and external customers.
Preferred: Advanced skill level in all aspects of the care of adult cardiovascular patients
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: Maintain current license as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Current CPR and ACLS certifications. CME as required.
Preferred: Additional training/certification specific to the care of adult cardiovascular patients.
