Customer Service Representative

The Customer Service Representative assists Building Division customers by receiving calls, provides information, explains policies and procedures.   Provides assistance with completing forms and applications and directs customers to the appropriate entity for assistance.

The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM.
  • Answers timely division calls, incoming correspondence, assists with questions, takes and routes messages to appropriate personnel, creates customer service requests and resolve questions when possible. 
  • Receives, and assists customers, gives direction and assistance as needed, provides forms and applications upon customers need, and provides assistance with completing applications/forms.
  • Identifies barriers and obstacles of the permitting process and suggest streamlining suggestions to improve customer services experiences. 
  • Performs general clerical work to support the division operations, enters and maintains information in databases, retrieves information when required, copies, scans, and files documents. 
  • Prepares correspondence, letters, memos, emails, completes forms and other documentation. 
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
  • One (1) year of experience in a field that focuses on customer service relationships.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
  • Certified Plan Reviewer, Flood Plain Manager, or similar professional certification in building and development field preferred.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires sitting most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent balancing and occasional bending
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping and typing.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, color vision, hearing, and speaking.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
