Essential Functions:
- Maintains evidence control and recovered property, ensuring all pieces of physical evidence are properly secured, documented, stored, retrieved, and disposed of properly.
- Prepares laboratory submission forms and transports evidence to appropriate laboratory.
- Logs evidence, assigns property control numbers and storage locations.
- Retrieves and logs property or other forms of evidence from supplementary evidence lockers.
- Checks property in or out to detectives/deputies for analysis or court/trial purposes.
- Completes and verifies paperwork for unclaimed property.
- Initiates property disposal/release procedures.
- Maintains computerized and manual custody record systems.
- Prepares reports of collections of all moneys received as evidence or found property, coordinating with the Finance Division.
- Testifies in court to evidence handling and the chain of custody.
- Assists citizens in return of stolen and/or confiscated property.
- All Citrus County Sheriff's Office employees are considered ‘essential workers' and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations, including but not limited to, in-County and out-of-County deployments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills..
- Strong computer skills to complete, update, and submit required reports and documents.
- Skilled in record keeping and filing.
- Ability to operate portable equipment including, but not limited to, battery chargers, jumper cables, air compressor, hand truck, fire extinguisher, and ladders.
- Ability to handle firearms safely.
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certification of competency required, AA degree preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence procedures, government statutes, and regulations.
- Two years minimum experience in receiving and issuing equipment, supplies or evidence.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to push/pull heavy objects (vehicles, safes) and use handcarts/furniture mover.
- Ability to lift objects over head.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to climb stairs, steps, land adders while carrying items.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Valid Florida Driver's License required.
