Starting Pay: $25.00/hour
General Description: This is a part-time position (an average of 2 hours per day) near various public school locations in the areas of Inverness, Crystal River, Homosassa, and Beverly Hills. School Crossing Guards are responsible for safeguarding school children en route to and from school and assisting vehicular traffic flow during peak congestion. Employees are responsible for performing their duties without direct supervision and must exercise independent judgment in completing assignments. Posts and shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time, with or without notice.
Essential Functions:
- Provides assistance and safety to school children crossing streets at designated intersections near public schools.
- Informs school children about crossing streets in a safe manner.
- Represents the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office to the community.
- Crossing Guard posts may require active traffic direction and control.
- Reports dangerous situations and drivers to law enforcement.
- Performs related work as required.
- All Citrus County Sheriff’s Office employees are considered ‘essential workers’ and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations, including but not limited to in-County and out-of-County deployments.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Must not have any felony convictions.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation that includes drug testing, physical exam*, and truth verification exam.
Education, Experience,and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and hold a stop sign weighing approximately 1 pound while holding the other hand in an upright, raised position.
- Must be capable of standing and walking for two hours or more at a time.
Requirements:
- Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement conditions.
- *Shall be required to provide a physician’s certification verifying their ability to perform the essential functions of the position prior to employment.
Training (Provided by Employer):
- Must successfully complete training and become certified through the Florida School Crossing Guard Program (FSCGTP) and FDLE Traffic Control Officer for Civilians course.
