Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Authorization Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary authorizations for medical services and procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of medical coding, terminology, and insurance verification processes. The Authorization Specialist will work closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely approvals while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Review and process authorization requests for medical services.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for services.
- Utilize ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to ensure accurate documentation.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, staff and insurance representatives to obtain necessary information.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations throughout the authorization process.
- Document all interactions and maintain accurate records in the medical office system.
- Assist in resolving any issues related to denied authorizations or appeals.
- Stay updated on managed care policies and changes in insurance regulations.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding and insurance verification processes.
- Familiarity with managed care principles is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple requests efficiently.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant software. Peferred use of EClinical Works.
