GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Code Compliance Officer, you will perform non-commissioned work in the enforcement of selected City and County code ordinances, including violations related to: weeds, junk vehicles, snow removal, accumulation of debris, and other complaints.
General Duties:
Patrols streets, identifies violations of municipal codes, including issues with weeds, junk vehicles, zoning, and encampments.
Responds to citizen inquiries, effectively communicates with Broomfield residents and/or businesses, issues notices or citations, and documents actions taken in compliance with codes.
Writes reports, takes photographs, sends corrective orders, and follows up on cases to ensure compliance.
Conducts presentations to educate the public on code compliance issues and solutions.
Identifies and recommends improvements to departmental operations, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Takes necessary safety precautions and anticipates potential hazards.
Manages workload effectively to meet departmental goals.
Collaborates with other departments and agencies, provides reports as required.
Trains new employees on code compliance duties, assists with departmental planning and coordination, and participates in meetings,workshops, and attends professional development training.
Keeps operational records, enters and retrieves information.
Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Maintains confidentiality of information and ensures all duties are performed in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Broomfield policies and the Municipal Code
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High school graduation or GED equivalent required.
60 college semester hours is preferred.
Experience
2 years experience in community services preferred.
Experience working with municipal and/or county code compliance or inspection issues is preferred.
Experience inspecting properties and vehicles, collecting data, applying municipal codes and gathering information by interviewing, obtaining statements and through direct observation is preferred.
Experience completing legal reports and testifying in court is preferred
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.
NECESSARY APPLICANT TRAITS:
Basic knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of local government code compliance operations such as patrol, violation identification, property research, issuing notices and orders, abatement measures, routine court procedures, community relations, and report preparation.
Basic knowledge: of the general layout of the City and County including the location of City and County neighborhoods.
Basic knowledge of customer service techniques and practices.
Basic knowledge of conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques and practices.
Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle in all types of weather conditions (this includes skill in operating a truck).
Skill in the operation of standard office equipment including but not limited to: personal computer, laptop computer, telephone, radio, copier, etc.
Must successfully complete the City and County of Broomfield’s Police Department Training program to continue employment.
