What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector II position at City and County of Broomfield?
The Public Works Department of the City and County of Broomfield is seeking to hire a full-time, non-exempt Construction Inspector II to join our team providing top quality services and high level customer service for our rapidly growing community.
This position conducts systematic inspections of all new construction by private contractors of grading, over-excavation (dirt work), utilities (sanitary sewer, both potable & non-potable water and storm sewer) streets (concrete and asphalt), and irrigation/landscaping to assure compliance with applicable City and county of Broomfield's codes, standards and specifications. Working hours are typically Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with overtime, Saturdays, and holidays as needed.

Conducts systematic inspections of all new construction by private contractors
Ensures compliance and conformance to plans, specifications and regulations including traffic control plans
Reinspects sites which were not approved on prior inspections
Informs contractors and developers of codes, standards and specifications and enforces as necessary to obtain corrective actions
Attends and may conduct, both office and field pre-construction meetings
May issue warnings including stop work orders and summonses
Investigate and respond to complaints from the Public relative to construction activities and seek corrective actions as needed. Communicates effectively with citizens, developers and contractors regarding the same.
Ensures that written Standard Operating Procedures are current and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Please note, this position is not a Building Inspector. The Uniform Building Code is not enforced by this position.
Education
High School Diploma/GED - required
Experience
Two years of experience in any of the Construction Inspections operations areas to include water distribution, sewer, reuse and stormwater collections, pavement/concrete and dry utilities.
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, and DMV check.
Certifications - required within one year of employment:
Class I Water Distribution Certification
Class I Wastewater Collection Certification
CAPA Asphalt Inspectors Certification
ACI Concrete Inspectors Certification
Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required. Overtime may be required.
Required to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).
Required to talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist from the upper body; use hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as digging; push or pull; reach with hands and arms; squat; stoop; crouch; and climb or balance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.
Travel by automobile is required to reach work sites and attend meetings.
Requires indoor and outdoor activities.
Work in conditions of extreme heat and cold.
Work at construction sites with subsequent exposure to a wide variety of safety hazards common to construction sites, such as but not limited to; heavy machinery, road traffic and heavy materials.
Additionally, construction inspections involve a wide range of physical movements such as climbing into trenches/manholes and lifting heavy items such as manhole covers.
Work in and around trenches or excavations.
Work around offensive odor.
