This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of athletic fields, courts and surrounding grounds. Performs all maintenance tasks on athletic fields and sports turf areas including mowing, edging, and trimming grass; raking fields; sweeping, blowing and picking up clippings, paper, trash and other debris from athletic fields and surrounding grounds. Prepares fields for games including dragging infield, chalking according to specified dimensions, watering infield, and setting bases. Performs other field maintenance duties include filling infield holes and adding clay to infield when necessary. Performs regular inspections and repairs of athletic facilities and amenities to include baseball field fencing and backstops, player benches, spectator bleachers, dugouts and dugout covers, and backstop boards. Accurately lays out soccer, football, rugby, and lacrosse fields using requested field dimensions. Paints athletic fields and sets out goals for games. Maintains safety and playability of athletic field turf by performing regular aeration which will include deep tine aeration, core and solid tine aeration, and slice aeration as needed. Utilizes independent judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities and makes recommendations to the supervisor for improvements. Operates, inspects and maintains equipment for safe and proper operation including push mowers, light duty vehicles, blowers, trimmers, edgers, and painters (Ride-on/Push).
Staff members are responsible for the preparation of various sports fields and playing surfaces.
Bike park maintenance of reshaping/rebuilding of jumps and landing, patching of holes, resurfacing of lines.
This position requires maintenance at sporting complexes and bike parks.
Operate maintenance equipment.
Perform semi-skilled and skilled park maintenance duties in a lead worker capacity.
Supervises and participates in the preparation, development, and maintenance of park areas
Recruit, schedule, train, supervise and prepare performance evaluations on lower-level division employees
Prepares and implements weekly work schedules.
Maintain a variety of records relating to maintenance, construction, and inspection of parks and facilities
May assume responsibility for division activities during absence of supervisor.
Assists in the operation of snow equipment during inclement weather, and is available for snow control duties after hours and on weekends.
Required to work tournaments, special events on holidays, weekends, and outside normally scheduled working hours.
Education
High School Diploma/GED - required
Experience
2 years experience required in construction, maintenance, and repair activities within the Athletics maintenance division.
1 year experience preferred in supervision of seasonal labor, volunteers, or part time positions.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check and sex-offender registry. If this position is required to drive a CCOB vehicle a DMV check will be required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment.
