The APS Social Caseworker series performs professional and administrative work involving a full range of assessment, case management and direct service delivery.
This role performs a variety of Adult Protective Services Social Caseworker duties outlined in APS Rule. These responsibilities include investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of at-risk adults in Broomfield; providing resources for clients and community partners as part of Outreach; assisting other departments within Broomfield HHS with connecting their adult, at-risk clients with services within the community; and learning the tools to do this work, including CAPS.
The APS Social Caseworker II role has a moderate level of supervisory oversight and maintains a moderate caseload that is semi-complex.

Provides intake, assessment and evaluation for at-risk adults and child abuse and neglect cases.
Investigates at-risk adult allegations of abuse and neglect; assesses level of risk and safety.
Develops and implements strategies to resolve identified issues; plans may include but not limited to community resource navigation, assistance with identifying placement for at-risk adults with increased needs, and guidance with identifying agencies that help with both guardianship and conservatorship.
Makes home visits and coordinates services needed by the client, such as: financial assistance, healthcare (physical and mental), in-home care, food assistance, and placement in skilled nursing or assisted living.
Writes reports in compliance with State and Federal guidelines and Division policy/procedures for documentation of case notes, case plans, baseline assessments, and re-assessments.
Performs all case management duties including data entry.
Collaborates, contracts and partners with other departments, community agencies, non-profit organizations, and vendors to serve client needs.
May conduct joint investigations with law enforcement.
Monitors compliance and progress with case plans.
Testifies and makes recommendations in court proceedings.
Requires on-call duty after hours and on holidays/weekends.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required in social work or human behavioral sciences.
Master’s degree in one of the human behavioral science fields preferred.
Current Colorado Child Welfare Social Caseworker certification preferred.
Experience
2 years experience required in casework in a public or private social services agency.
OR
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check, and child abuse, adult abuse, and sex-offender registries, fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI, and a DMV check. Child abuse and adult abuse checks are continued on an annual basis.
Within six months of employment complete Fundamentals of Colorado Child Welfare Casework Practice training.
For continued employment, must pass pre-requisite requirements for Social Caseworker Certification and maintain annual certification per CCR 7.603.1 requirements.
If assigned to child welfare, within six months of assignment appointment. Within six months of employment complete Fundamentals of Colorado Child Welfare Casework Practice training.

Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening, weekend and holiday hours as required.
Work involves on-call duty after hours and on holidays/weekends and must be available to respond within one hour of notification.
Frequently required to sit, talk or hear, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Physical demands are described as sedentary (exert up to 30 lbs. of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body).
Travel by automobile is required to meet with clients, attend professional meetings, or to coordinate the division's activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
