General Statement of Duties / Distinguishing Features of the Class
We are seeking several customer-service oriented candidates to perform food preparation, set-up, sales and clean-up of activities for concession sales for Civic Center events and perform other related work as required.
This is responsible sporadic and/or on-call work involving food and beverage sales and preparation work at the Civic Center facility. The work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Concessions Supervisor, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. Must meet physical requirements of the job as follows: Assist in preparing and serving meals, snacks and beverages. This position requires heavy lifting and the ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time; keep all kitchen, servings and bevarage areas clean and organized. Help to ensure all food products are held and served at proper temperatures. This position requires the use of excellent customer service skills when dealing with the public, supervisors and co-workers. Must exhibit good communication, reading, writing and math skills. Positive attitude and high work ethic is a must.
This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City-County of Butte-Silver Bow and the Federation of Butte-Silver Bow Civic Center Cashiers and Concession Workers, Local no. 4372, MFPE Clerks.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
- Prepares cooked foods in Civic Center kitchen and transports to concession sales area;
- Stocks boxed foods and serving containers in concession sales area;
- Fills food orders taken verbally from customers;
- Registers sales, collects money and makes change;
- Cleans concession sales and food service area and equipment at the end of each shift;
- Carry out duties while giving excellent customer service;
- Performs related work as required;
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of food service equipment, products and safety and sanitation standards;
- Ability to perform food preparation and sales;
- Ability to communicate well with the Concessions Manager, Butte Civic Center Manager and Assistant Manager, food preparation and sales staff, customers and the general public both orally and in writing using technical and non-technical language;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Civic Center employees, supervisory personnel, food and beverage providers, merchandisers and community organizations;
- Ability to carry out duties while giving excellent customer service;
- Ability to prepare accurate and reliable reports containing sales and inventory information;
- Ability to operate a cash register;
- Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
- Ability to perform a wide variety of food preparation tasks with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
- Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Required Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Graduation from high school preferred, preferably supplemented by training in food preparation; and
- Some experience preparing and serving food and beverage products preferred including excellent customer service skills; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills
Required Special Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a resident of Butte-Silver Bow during employment according to Butte-Silver Bow Ordinance. See below.
From and after October 1, 1979, all employees of the local government of Butte-Silver Bow shall be bona fide residents within the boundaries of Butte-Silver Bow during the period of their employment by the government of Butte-Silver Bow.
