General Statement of Duties
Creates and manages a wide variety of City-County GIS databases and related information; does related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
This is a highly responsible and difficult technical work involving responsibility for the collection, development, configuration, transformation, distribution, and protection of City-County GIS databases and related operations and activities. This class also requires an employee to have an in-depth experience and skills in GIS science, cartography, problem definition, solutions development, and GIS centric programming, scripting, and communication.
The work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Planning Director, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain close cooperative working relationships with the GIS Coordinator, Public Works Director, Reclamation and Environmental Services Director, Planning Director, Public Works and Department of Reclamation employees, GIS system vendors, consultants and users, and other City-County department employees.

- Administers and secures public and private information stored onsite and online.
- Maintains municipal and remedial infrastructure data using the ESRI Enterprise system.
- Performs field work, as necessary, remote data collection, and on-site office work.
- Uses GPS (Global Positioning System) and tablets to gather data for GIS related use.
- Collaborates with Public Works, Reclamation and Environmental Services, and Planning Departments collecting, creating, managing, and sharing municipal and remedial infrastructure datasets using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey 123, data-sharing platforms, online resources, and web-based databases and maps.
- Collaborates with colleagues, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies in the creation and maintenance of spatial data.
- Creates and maintains web maps and applications, digital features, and printed material for internal use, as well as by external request.
- Generates and manipulates datasets, online resources, and printed maps incorporating spatial and tabular data to support field crews and office staff.
- Performs digitizing, spatial data editing, attribute editing, data validation and maintenance of digital infrastructure and related attribute information.
- Modifies spatial data to prepare construction completion reports and data summary reports to fulfill regulatory reporting requirements.
- Trains City-County employees in the use of the GIS system and troubleshoots operational problems.
- Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops as requested and authorized.
- Performs all duties and work assignments in a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound manner. Specifically, complies with the Health & Safety Program; maintains work area in a safe and orderly manner; identifies and reports unsafe conditions; reports all accidents; wears required personal protective equipment; and attends safety-related meetings, training sessions, fit testing, etc.
