The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you will primarily work at the Denver International Airport three days a week. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
What You’ll Do
The City Attorney’s Office serves as the chief legal counsel to the Mayor, City Council, City Auditor, City Clerk and Recorder, and all City agencies. Its responsibilities include handling city lawsuits, prosecuting ordinance violations, providing victim support in criminal cases, representing the city in investigations and litigation, advising on contractual and transactional matters, offering regulatory and compliance assistance, addressing employment matters for the city's more than 12,000 workers, and providing legal guidance on local, state, and federal law.
With a team of over 250 individuals, the City Attorney’s Office is dedicated to protecting resident welfare, enhancing neighborhood quality of life, and responsibly managing taxpayer funds. As advocates for effective governance, transparency, and accountability, the office empowers the city to do its work and prioritizes ethical conduct in all city operations. - Advising the Airport with regard to procurement and contract drafting, negotiation and enforcement of contracts, leases, permits, and other legal documents in specific legal areas as assigned
- Supporting senior attorneys and the Airport in complex transactions with contractors, airlines, concessions companies, technology companies, disputes, and in many other areas
- Researching, interpreting, and advising senior attorneys and the Airport regarding municipal, state and federal laws, including Federal Aviation Administration requirements
- Drafting memoranda, letters, motions, briefs, and other written documents
- Assisting with drafting and review of City and Airport policies and procedures
- Participating in City Attorney’s Office, DEN Legal and Airport initiatives
- Supporting and implementing the vision of the Section and the City Attorney’s Office as a whole, including facilitating and promoting integration of diversity, equality, and inclusiveness strategies into work and the work environment
- Mentoring junior attorneys and interns
- Performing other related duties as assigned or requested

- Experience in intellectual property and technology law
- Experience with complex construction contracts or other complex contracts
- Experience in municipal, airport and/or transportation law, including but not limited to FAA, TSA and other federal law applicable to the airport
- Experience with real estate development and leasing, including transactions, planning and financing, related environmental law, and interaction with municipal or other regulators
- Experience in commercial transactions, including concessions, food and beverage or retail businesses
- Experience in public safety and security
- Experience in finance, including public finance laws such as the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights
- At least three (3) years of legal experience after graduation from law school
- Technology services or general contracting experience
- The desire to step in and take responsibility for routine matters with supervision and mentoring
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Education requirement: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Law Degree.
- Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience as an attorney at law.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
- License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4 and 205.6.
- Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
