What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 / year based on education and experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to :

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. In this position you can expect to work in-person at the Denver City and County Building 3 -4 days per week based on operational needs.
What You'll Do
The Office of City Council is seeking a Council Secretary and Parliamentarian to provide advanced professional administrative support and expertise in parliamentary procedures for City Council. This role functions as the City’s Clerk, ensuring efficient and compliant council meetings while serving as a key liaison in the legislative process. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional attention to detail, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a proactive work ethic. They should thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment that requires confidentiality, political acumen, and adaptability. Maintaining a positive and professional demeanor while navigating complex legislative and procedural matters is essential.
As City Council Secretary and Parliamentarian, duties will include :
Staffing City Council meetings and committee sessions
Ensuring efficient, professional, and procedurally compliant council meetings in accordance with established standards
Preparing agendas, committee review sheets, and meeting schedules in consultation with relevant members
Reviewing and editing consent agenda items, council bills, and committee agenda descriptions
Processing legal protests submitted to City Council
Responding to inquiries from constituents regarding Council history, bill status, public hearing procedures, and Council rules and regulations
Serving as the records coordinator for City Council and Legislative Services, maintaining official city records, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, easements, and other legal documents
Performing other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring
Experience collaborating with elected officials or key stakeholders
Knowledge of parliamentary procedures and legislative processes
Strong time management and organizational skills to effectively meet deadlines
Ability to interpret and communicate local and state laws and regulations
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Proven ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with government officials, community groups, and the public
Willingness to attend evening meetings and occasionally travel, including overnight stays, for training and official city business
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement : Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Experience requirement : Three (3) years of experience administering programs and / or assisting professional or management staff with administrative or operational functions
Education and Experience Equivalency : One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
